<description>Factors influencing the neurological development of receptive language skills in Bengali Speaking Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Sultana, Sonia
Most of the children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) have difficulties in their language comprehension that turned out to be a major setback for their independent life. They also cannot understand and share their interests, wants and needs with parents, caregivers or peers and become frustrated over the time. As such, the researcher explored the answer of her research question as to how receptive language development can be promoted among children with ASD both at home and specialized school. The study has been carried out in order to help the Bengali spoken children with ASD to overcome their frustration as well as to help them turning into human resources. Examining a total of 73 children with ASD following some intervention methods provided positive result of its application both at home and special schools. Besides, expert interview suggested a parent based model of teaching speech and language and a more acceptable individualized education system while Focused Group Discussion and Perception survey among parents and special educators recommended consistent exposure to verbal environment and avoiding screen time, joint family concept and a combine action by the caregivers and the special educators for the appropriate intervention method of developing language comprehension in children with ASD. Finally, this empirical study recommends few imperatives for ensuring appropriate environment for the neurological development of receptive language in children with ASD.

Mehjabin, Sadia
Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person’s thoughts, behavior, feeling and sense of wellbeing. Rates of depression among the students of University of Dhaka are expected to rise rapidly, requiring the collection of research-based data. The purpose of this research is to present a picture of depression related issues faced by students of University of Dhaka. 14 focus group discussions were being held. Data were being collected from 89 participants (age range = 19 to 25) by using exploratory, qualitative approach. Two main analytical themes and related sub-themes were being discovered. The first subject focuses on perception of participants of their mental health status and second one is about coping with depression. Risk group of depression among the students are students who are in first year, students who are facing poverty, students who are married. And this leads to excessive rates of committing suicide and being addicted to drugs. Proper counseling and treatment should be managed for curing depression.

<title>Gender Inequality in Eye Care in North Western Bangladesh</title>
<link>http://reposit.library.du.ac.bd:8080/xmlui/xmlui/handle/123456789/4792</link>
<description>Gender Inequality in Eye Care in North Western Bangladesh
Sultana, U. K. M Farhana
Gender inequality in health care is a well-recognized fact particularly in developing countries; but the determinants of the inequality, both from the provider and consumer perspectives may vary substantially depending on demographic, socioeconomic and cultural background. Studies on gender inequalities are rare all over the world and it is virtually nonexistent in Bangladesh. Exploration of the extent of gender inequality and its determinants are vital for designing evidence based healthcare strategy in any community. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the determinants of gender inequality in eye care in a rural, semi-urban and urban population in north-western Bangladesh. This population was covered by a comprehensive eye care project (named as BADAS-ORBIS Eye care Project) operated by Thakurgaon Swasthoseba Hospital, and managed by the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (Bangladesh Diabetic Somiti or BADAS, the parent organization of BIRDEM) supported by ORBIS, Dinajpur Govt. hospital and Panchagarh District Hospital. The study population, was selected by a randomization procedure from the total population covered by the project, surveyed by an interviewer administered pretested questionnaire to explore the gender-wise awareness regarding eye diseases as well as regarding the barriers to use of eye care services.&#13;
In addition to the Socio-demographic and economic variables the cultural and psychological issues (like traveling alone to health centers, perceived value of surgery, lack of access to information and resources, fear of poor outcome, beliefs and superstitions) were given particular attention. Factors related to provider were also be assessed by the same method. Special focus was given to analyze the inequalities and determinants in terms of ‘sex’ as well as in terms of gender (which transforms the biological variable sex into the social variable ‘gender’). Data was analyzed by univariate analysis using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The data was expected to generate valuable suggestions regarding proper intervention to create gender balance in health care in general.&#13;
Research shows that gender discrimination occurs more within the family than among healthcare providers or on the street. Girls are particularly vulnerable to it in the home of their in-laws.&#13;
viii&#13;
Awareness must be raised nationwide because this prejudice still takes place in families, particularly in the in-laws house, because of outdated superstitions or religious convictions. Religious speakers can free themselves from religious reforms through their speeches. The government could take the most significant step by making hospitals more welcoming to women and allocating a specific budget for women's healthcare.
